MAIDU SPRING CELEBRATION AND CRAFT FAIR
ROSEVILLE,CA

Sunday, April 25, 2004 from 10am to 3pm
Maidu Interpretive Center at 1960 Johnson Ranch Drive in Roseville to
participate in a California Indian spring celebration. The event is FREE for
the community, and all are invited to attend.

At 10am, Rick Adams, cultural director of the Shingle Springs Rancheria,
will
lead the opening blessing of the Maidu "leafing out" of spring celebration.
After his blessing and welcoming of guests and elders, several California
Indian dance groups will honor the plants and animals of spring through
their dances and songs throughout the day. The dances encourage the bounty
of nature and the coming of a new season.

Throughout the day, there will be ethnobotany walks, children's crafts,
tours of the Maidu Historic Site, and California Indian craft
demonstrations, including basketweaving, acorn preparation, cordage making,
fire starting, flint knapping, tule crafts and more. This year features the
second annual Yomen Craft Fair with Indian art and crafts for sale.

For more information, contact the Interpretive Center at (916) 772-4242.
